1. Acceptance and eligibility
By creating an account, purchasing tokens, requesting a number, or using 2nd Line, you accept these Terms, the Privacy Notice, and the Acceptable Use Policy. You must be at least 18, have legal capacity to agree, and provide accurate account information. If you use 2nd Line for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind it.
Sign-in is provided through Google or Apple. You are responsible for protecting the linked account and for activity performed through your 2nd Line account. Notify support immediately if access may be compromised.
2. The 2nd Line service
2nd Line may provide fixed-term telephone numbers, calling, approved SMS/MMS, supported code requests, a token wallet, optional rewarded ads, notifications, and support. Features depend on country, number type, carrier inventory, device, regulatory approval, and risk review. Displaying a feature does not guarantee that it is available for every account or destination.
2nd Line may use telecommunications, hosting, billing, advertising, identity, and verification service providers. We may refuse, delay, suspend, replace, or discontinue a number or feature when required by law, a carrier, a platform, a security review, or service availability.
3. 2nd Line Communications messaging program
Program name: 2nd Line Communications. The program supports low-volume, user-initiated, non-marketing customer-care, appointment, account-related, and similar informational conversations where messaging has been approved.
- Message frequency: varies with recipient requests and conversation activity. This is not an automatic marketing subscription.
- Charges: message and data rates may apply under the recipient’s carrier plan.
- Help: reply HELP for help. A 2nd Line user can also contact 2nd Line through Settings → Support in the app.
- Opt out: reply STOP to end messages from the applicable sender and purpose. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT are also treated as opt-out requests where supported.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Messages may be blocked, filtered, or rejected by a carrier or by 2nd Line safety controls.
4. Sender identity, recipient consent, and opt-out
Before sending an outbound message, you must obtain the recipient’s prior express consent for your identity, purpose, and message subject. When written consent is required, you must keep verifiable proof and submit an accurate consent record for review. Consent may not be bought, sold, rented, transferred, bundled, assumed from a contact list, or used for a different sender or subject.
Every message must clearly identify the party that obtained consent. The initial message must include “Reply STOP to opt out” or an equivalent standard instruction. You must honor an opt-out immediately and may not send again unless the same recipient later provides new, valid consent. You must provide proof of consent when requested by 2nd Line, Twilio, a carrier, or a lawful authority.
2nd Line messaging is an application-to-person service. You may not use it for unrestricted personal peer-to-peer texting, unsolicited marketing, mass messaging, lead lists, or traffic intended to evade carrier controls. The full restrictions appear in the Acceptable Use Policy.
5. Tokens, purchases, rewards, and number terms
- Token packs are one-time consumable purchases, not recurring subscriptions. They have no cash value, are not transferable, and cannot be redeemed for money.
- Fixed 30- or 365-day number terms are paid from the token wallet and do not renew automatically. If a term expires without enough tokens, service stops or is suspended; the wallet does not go negative.
- Calls, messages, media, number terms, and code requests may use different token amounts. The app shows the applicable amount before an action where practical.
- Reward tokens are promotional, may be tracked separately, and are granted only after server verification. Reward eligibility uses server time; attempting to bypass the hourly limit is prohibited.
- Except where required by law or expressly shown for a specific operation, completed purchases, used tokens, released numbers, and expired terms are non-refundable.
If a provider outcome is uncertain, 2nd Line may temporarily reserve tokens while reconciling the operation. The wallet updates when the authoritative result is known. Store refunds, reversals, or chargebacks may remove associated tokens and can produce a balance adjustment.
6. Numbers, calls, and code requests
You do not own an assigned telephone number. Numbers may be reclaimed, suspended, porting-restricted, or reassigned by a carrier after release or expiration. Do not use a 2nd Line number as the sole credential for banking, health, government, safety, or other irreplaceable access.
Code requests may be used only for an account or service you are lawfully entitled to access and only when the target service permits that method. A request generally remains active for a limited window, availability is not guaranteed, and a number may receive one supported code. You may not use code requests to create deceptive accounts, evade bans, bypass security, or violate another service’s rules.
7. Important service limitations
2nd Line is not an emergency service, a replacement for a primary mobile plan, or a guaranteed way to reach 911 or any emergency number. Keep a reliable primary telephone service for emergency communications.
Calling and messaging depend on internet connectivity, device permissions, push delivery, carriers, and third-party networks. Caller identification, location, SMS/MMS, inbound service, international reach, and number capabilities may vary. Do not rely on 2nd Line for life-safety, medical, financial, legal-deadline, or other time-critical communications.
8. Safety, monitoring, and enforcement
You must comply with law, carrier rules, platform policies, and the Acceptable Use Policy. We may use automated and human review of metadata, consent evidence, risk signals, support records, and content where necessary to operate or secure the service. We may block an operation, suspend a number or Twilio subaccount, preserve evidence, or terminate an account for suspected fraud, spam, harassment, unlawful activity, sanctions risk, payment abuse, or policy evasion.
9. Account deletion and retained records
You may delete your account from Settings or at the public deletion page. Access and user-facing data are removed, active numbers are released, and unused tokens or fixed terms are not refunded except where law requires. Limited records remain for the periods and purposes described in the Privacy Notice. A valid, documented legal hold may delay purge.
10. Third-party services and intellectual property
App stores, Google, Apple, Firebase, Twilio, RevenueCat, AdMob, carriers, and other providers have separate terms. You must comply with them where applicable. The 2nd Line software, branding, design, and documentation are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, reverse engineer, resell, sublicense, automate abuse, or interfere with security.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise uninterrupted availability, a particular number, delivery, compatibility, code receipt, carrier acceptance, or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, 2nd Line is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; lost profits, data, messages, opportunities, or number access; or failures caused by carriers, platforms, recipients, internet service, or misuse. Our aggregate liability for a claim will not exceed the amount you paid to 2nd Line through 2nd Line in the six months before the event giving rise to the claim, unless applicable law requires more.
12. Changes, termination, and applicable law
We may update these Terms prospectively. Material changes will be communicated as required. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance where permitted; if you do not agree, stop using the service and delete the account. You may stop at any time. Provisions concerning payments, records, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, and disputes survive termination.
These Terms are governed by applicable law, except where consumer law provides otherwise. Before filing a formal claim, contact support and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve it.
13. Support contact
Account holders can contact support through Settings → Support in the app. Messaging recipients can reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. If you cannot access the app and need account deletion, use the public deletion page. Additional instructions are available on the Support page.
